ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

 

Year of Establishment: July 1973


The Department was set up by Prof. K. H. Cheluva Raju, with the support and encouragement of Dr. H. N Narasimhaiah, the then Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University. Dr. Cheluva Raju served as Professor and Chairman till 1987, and went on to become the Vice-Chancellor of Gulbarga University from 1987-1990. Since, then the department has had eminent faculty members, who have carried forward the legacy and values established by Prof. K. H. Cheluva Raju. Some of them include Prof. Narayana, Prof. R.L.M. Patil, Prof. M.G. Krishnan Prof. P. S. Jayaramu, Prof. Sandeep Shastri, Prof. D. Jeevan Kumar, Prof. Meena Deshpande, Prof. M.J. Vinod and Prof. P. Ramanna. Presently, the department consists of three Professors and there are 102 PG students, 27 Ph.D. Scholars and 33 Doctoral degrees were awarded (2017—2022).Foreign students in PG (01) and Ph.D. (02).

VISION AND MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT:
 
 
Vision:

The Department of Political Science aims at equipping students with the knowledge and tools required to understand 
political phenomena at local, state, regional, national and international levels. Through different pedagogical methods, the Department seeks to impart essential knowledge of the theories and processes in the different branches of the discipline of Political Science, as well as the ability to think critically. The Department is committed to the values of democracy, equity, justice, inclusion, diversity and sustainable human development.
 
Mission

To equip students with the history and contemporary developments in the discipline of Political Science. To help students to understand and apply concepts, theories and methodologies from the different branches of Political Science, and to make sense of the world around them. To enable students to acquire knowledge of the institutions and processes of government that shape politics, both within and among nations. To ensure that students develop a commitment to the values of democracy, equity, justice, inclusion, diversity and sustainable human development.

Candidates who have secured 40% marks in the aggregate of all subjects and 50% marks in the cognate subject / Public Administration at the Bachelor’s Degree level. Graduates who have studied Political Science as a subject in the first three years of Five Years B.A.B.L/B.A.LL.B Course are also eligible

JCP is a peer-reviewed, open-access quarterly with the objective of publishing original articles, creative research and review articles on a broad array of topics relevant to recent research trends on the intersection of national and international politics. JCP encourages manuscripts from a wide range of Political Science disciplines to be considered for publication, including Comparative Politics, International Relations, Public Policy, Public Administration, Political Theory, Political Thought, Political Economy, Political Sociology and Geopolitics.
